ACTIVE Club - The ACTIVE Club meets every month. This is an excellent opportunity for Middle and High School students to interact and develop leadership skills. |
Deaf Awareness Night with Pensacola Pelicans - For the second year, DHHS has teamed with the Pensacola Pelicans providing family entertainment at a baseball game. This year was especially exciting because Miss Deaf Florida Jazmin Bravo joined us and signed the National Anthem. The music played with no words while everyone watched Jazmin Bravo sing in American Sign Language. It was a wonderful sight. View picture. Thank you PAX TV for making this possible! |

Reading Project (SRP)
– DHHS focuses on the literacy development and communication skills of
Deaf and Hard of Hearing children from ages 0 – 8. The SRP is designed to
give Deaf children with Hearing parents the same access to language and
communication that other Hearing children have with Hearing parents. A tutor
working with the family weekly gives the family book reading strategies that
Deaf parents use while reading to their Deaf children. This nationally
acclaimed and recognized program reveals improved academics, behavior, and
social and life skills. |
Southern Deaf Golf Camp - SDGC was a success this year with 13 participants from Alabama and Florida. The children were able to enjoy learning golf. This program is designed to expose the interest and hidden talent that some of the deaf and hard of hearing children may have. Sponsors from across the nation and locally came together to ensure that SDGC was a wonderful and exciting event. Click here to view pictures. |
Family
Resource Meetings for Parents –
Parents of Deaf or Hard of Hearing children are encouraged as they meet with
other parents who may be facing the same issues, either at home or at
school. DHHS provides an atmosphere and opportunity for these parents to
express their concerns and questions. This collaboration of parental support
enables parents to become more aware of the issues they and their children
may be facing and also empowers parents to advocate for their own families. |
